Description :
Distance learning is a very wide domain, as wide as learning itself
and learning methods suitable for some segments is not for others.
This project focuses on identifying and experimenting remote learning
methods suitable for university courses in the field of ICT. While
many remote learning environments aim mainly at knowledge transfer,
we want to foster understanding. Besides, since it is unaffordable
to tun two similar courses in parallel, the remote learning courses
must be as well suitable for local students as for remote students.
Finally, the induced workload as well for the learners as for the
teachers must be similar to that of traditional university teaching.
The best results were obtained by combining individual learning, (remotely)
tutored small group discussions and small group problem solving. After
testing several environments, a modified and complemented version
of the
Claroline suite has been
selected as technical support environment. The modified environment
can be upgraded with future versions of Claroline.
