Département d'ingénierie informatique

Présentation / What we do

Missions et objectifs Missions and objectives

The main scientific goal of the Department of Computing Science is to create methods, techniques, and tools supporting an efficient approach for the design and the implementation of computing systems, mainly- but not only- in the software field.

Today more then ever no one doubts about the need for improving quickly and significantly the software production process: the industrialization of the implementation process for IT systems is largely reduced by the fact that the software production is too often homemade and unpredictable. Although breaktrough in the area of electronical components technology is significant, progress in the field of software production are measured in terms of percentage.

Therefore, the Department of Computing Science and Engineering devotes its major scientific efforts to the field of software technology and particularly to the computer-aided software engineering. Both software at application and systems levels are considered. For these software systems the emphasis is set on distributed an parallel systems which are based, among others, on progress in the area of IT networks and related programming languages. On the other hand, the methods and techniques related to artificial intelligence and logic programming are playing an important role in the field of software technology. The Departement of Computing Science and Engineering has developed a pole of expertise in this field for many years.

Regarding education the professors of the Department of Computing Science and Engineering are responsible for basic and advanced courses in different study programs of the faculty of Applied Sciences and particularly in programs leading to degrees of computing science engineering (normal and complementary degree) and in programs of computing science available to bachelors of science and industrial engineers.
They also contribute to the curriculum of students from other faculties (science, agronomy, Institute of management). Together with this educational mission the scientific goals mentioned above are enhanced by activities dedicated to educational methodologies assisted by Internet and Web-based technologies.
